Why Doing The Right Thing Is Always The Best Option

“Don’t do things that you know are morally wrong. Not because someone is watching, but because you are. Self-esteem is just the reputation that you have with yourself.”
Naval Ravikant

We want our mind, beliefs, and actions to be aligned.

Doing things that you know are wrong is what happens when your mind and your actions become out of sync. We believe that we can get away with bad behavior because there’s no one to hold us accountable. And that’s true. If we’re unwilling to do it ourselves.

But in reality, you’re always watching.

You will always have a front row seat. You know what you’ve done. Although nobody is going to directly hold you accountable, your decisions and actions will accumulate over time and can have a negative impact on your life.

So, if self esteem is just the reputation that you have with yourself, how can you work to improve this reputation?

  • Be honest with yourself
  • Don’t do things that you know are morally wrong
  • Be a good person
  • Work hard
  • Put in real time and effort
  • Do the right thing
  • Always do your best

And the best part about all of these suggestions?

We all know what they look like.

I don’t have to explain what hard work looks like.

We all know what it means to be a good person.

We all know what it means to be honest with ourselves.

None of these will be the fastest or easiest options. In fact, they will take more work than their shortcut counterparts. But that’s what makes them so rewarding.

Work hard, test yourself, push yourself, and become the best version of you that you can be.
