One of The Coolest Parts About Writing Online

One of the coolest parts about writing online is connecting with people from all over the world.

Before I started writing online, my experience with foreigners was virtually non-existent (pun intended). But since starting my blog, one of my favorite things is to look at my engagement and see all of the different countries that have stopped by.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I appreciate you and your engagement regardless of where you’re from. But there’s something different about the idea of spreading your message and having someone from thousands of miles away hear what you have to say.

That’s powerful.

Modern technology

Technology is powerful. The internet, social media, and the connectivity that they provide. The internet has connected us in a way like never before. On the one hand, this is an amazing thing full of potential and possibility. And on the other hand, it can also be used to promote, hate, violence, and drive people apart.

Powerful tools are often indiscriminate as to how their power is used. We have to pay attention and be responsible for them.

Technology can deliver the majority of the results with a fraction of the effort when it comes to social connections. It’s no wonder most of us take advantage of it.

What happened next

I wrote a few hundred words and then back-burnered this article, as I’m sure many writers do. But I’m finishing it because the universe provided me with the other half of the story that I was waiting for.

Recently I published a post called “How to Know When It’s Time to Act“.

When I went to check at it a few hours later, I was amazed. Of the 19 people who visited my site, not a single one was American! Throughout my entire life, the vast majority of my interactions have been with Americans. So to see people from all over the world checking out my blog was amazing.

But the part that really made it stick was not seeing a single fellow American.

Not necessarily a good or a bad thing. Just interesting.

It gave me what I needed to finish this piece.

I mean really, how crazy is that? With the click of a button, you can share and connect with people from all over the world.

How will I use this power?

So we’ve concluded that this sort of technology is a force magnifier. It’s incredibly powerful and you can use it for whatever reasons you’d like. But we all get to decide what that means for us.

I want to use it to spread positive messages. To share messages of hope, motivation, and possibility.

I want to show people that we have control over our destinies. That instead of waiting or wishing for things to happen, we have the power to make them happen.

The answer to your problems isn’t winning the lottery. The answer is consistency and sustained growth.

Making positive changes is completely under your control. If you maintain sustained effort for a long time, the compounding interest will become clear.

This is how you make great gains.

A philosophy I live by

1% better every day

Every day the goal is to become 1% better.

  • Exercise and make your body stronger.
  • Read and make your mind stronger.
  • Write and gain clarity of thought.
  • Work on personal development.
  • Start a side project or practice a skill.

There are lots of things that you can do to be better every day. Pick one.

I believe that if you aren’t growing, you’re decaying. It’s as simple as that. There is no such thing as staying the same because even if your skill-set stays the same when you factor in time, it’s a net loss.

And time is something that we can’t get back.

As with everything, there’s a balance. You want to work towards being better, but you also want to make time for relaxation.

You want to be efficient with your time, but not obsessed.

Another key is to be present and surrender yourself to the activity. If you’re doing work and trying to get things done, give it 100% of your focus. If you’re trying to relax, let everything else go and just try to relax.

Don’t half-ass things. You gotta be all-in or all-out.

Final note

Technology and online writing have created massive opportunities to connect with people and share ideas like never before.

My goal is to leverage this potential and use it to spread hope and motivation.

  1. This is cool! I really agree that technology gave writing a new platform that as writers, we are responsible to harness. I love how your philosophy shadows James Clear’s philosophy in Atomic Habits: The Compounding Effect of Habits.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts! And I am from the other side of the world as well. It is delightful to visit your blog. Take care.

    1. Hey Elijah! You’re welcome!

I really like James Clear. I’ve read articles and heard podcasts but I haven’t read his book yet. It’s definitely on my list though!

Thank you for reaching out and I hope you have a great day!

  2. Great one! I truly loved your content and your style of writing.
My favorite part in online writing is that we can write whenever we wish to or whenever we get some ideas. I don’t normally think too much before writing and I write at an instant. And as you had said, connecting people is absolutely a great boon of online writing.

Yes. The freedom that writing provides – to be able to create something out of nothing in an instant is amazing! Great point.

  3. Loved your post. I agree with you entirely. You write from one corner of the world and it is read, sometimes within a few hours, by someone faraway. And you connect with so many people!
