Memento Mori is a latin expression that translates to “Remember death.” Death can be a difficult topic to think about, let alone talk about. However, once we’re able to accept and appreciate the inevitability of death, we can channel that energy into motivation. There is no greater incentive to start working towards your goals than the reminder that our time here is limited. If there’s something that you’re interested in doing, you better get out there and start doing it. Because one day it will be too late and you will have missed your opportunity. Don’t let that happen. Let’s instead shoot for the stars. Who knows if we’ll make it. But we can always take solace in the fact that we’re getting out there and going for it. Another beautiful description of the motivational power of death:
“We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one.” –Confucius
Realize we only have one life. Don’t take things for granted. Be grateful. Acknowledge your mortality. Time is precious. Don’t take things too seriously. Most things don’t matter. Take chances. Have fun and live your best life.
