Pick Your Goal, Form a Plan, Execute

Do you want more out of life?

Do you want to have greater influence?

Do you want to be known?

Instead of focusing on the fact that you don’t have these things, focus on what is under your control. Focus on finding ways to attain them. If your goal is to have a good job or to be well known, work backwards and find a way to do it. Time spent worrying, resentful, or anxious is time wasted. Instead, try:

  1. Define your direction.
  2. Choose a specific goal. (For accountability)
  3. Research/Plan (Approximate)
  4. Get to work

You want to have some sort of approximate plan or guide – you don’t want to go in blind. But don’t waste time over-planning, waiting, or wishing. At a certain point you just have to start. You will learn as you go. You’ll learn what to do, what to avoid, and gain lessons along the way that you couldn’t learn otherwise. Knowledge plus experience equals growth. Reading and theorizing will only get you so far. Eventually you have to take a leap of faith and start. There will never be a perfect time to start, so might as well start now.

“Instead of being concerned that you have no office, be concerned to think how you may fit yourself for office. Instead of being concerned that you are not known, seek to be worthy of being known.” -Confucius

What is your goal? Are you taking steps towards achieving it? I’d love to hear! Feel free to share in the comments. Any other feedback is also appreciated.
